Girl Science • Science Girl

Girl Science • Science Girl is a free event aiming to show the role of women scientists in different areas of knowledge, expanding the horizons of girls in school (from ages 12 to 14). The course consists of lectures and practical laboratory activities and is sponsored by the Federal University of ABC (UFABC).

In 2020 the event was fully online with 120 girls selected for monitored practical activities and lectures taking place during five weeks.

In its first edition in Santo André in 2019, Girl Science • Science Girl received 50 girls between the 6th and 9th grade of Elementary School II, from public and private schools (evenly distributed). We also had the invaluable contribution of 21 monitors, young women attending undergraduate school at UFABC and other universities in São Paulo, who worked in close contact with the girls, helping and encouraging them to make the best out of this experience.

The course is supported by leading scientists from UFABC and other partner institutions. The topics covered in the activities are Astrobiology, Astronomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Cosmology, Education, Engineering, Physical, Phytotherapy, Chemistry, Mathematics, Oceanography, and Paleontology.

It is a great experience to receive these girls and to show them a world of possibilities!
