FDG PET signal is driven by astroglial glutamate transport
Summary: Contributions of glial cells to neuroenergetics have been the focus of extensive debate. In this seminar, we will discuss the utilization of positron emission tomography (PET) with the radiopharmaceutical FDG, an analog of glucose, for studying and diagnosing brain disorders. Additionally, we will explore recent evidences indicating that glucose consumption in astrocytes impacts on FDG signal. This notion can profoundly change the way we image the brain function and impact on brain disorders diagnosis and therapy.
