Workshop and Course Gravitational Wave Astrophysics

  • Responsável: CMCC - Centro de Matemática, Computação e Cognição
  • Câmpus: Santo André
  • Local: Bloco A - Sala 312-2
  • Data: de 01/08/2016 até 05/08/2016
  • Horário: 13:00 às 18:00
  • Descrição:

The direct detection of gravitational waves has given us a remarkable new window through which to see some of the most dynamic and energetic astrophysical events in the universe. In this course, Professor Cole Miller of the University of Maryland (USA) will present the fundamentals of gravitational wave astrophysics, including the sources of gravitational waves, the properties of black holes and neutron stars, and the recent LIGO detections. Each day will be split into a lecture with an emphasis on interaction and discussion, and group problem-solving work on the day’s topics.
